Basic Keelboat Instruction
If your new to sailing, this is the place to start. Learn the how to´s of sailing on a modern, responsive, comfortable, 22´ Catalina Capri keel boat. This boat is fun, stable, and a great performer. With the help of your instructor, you will be sailing with confidence in a matter of days. Courses are held in Charlotte Harbor, in light to
moderate sea conditions and winds of 5 to 15 knots. This course lays the foundation for all upper level classes, and teaches fundamental skills that will last a lifetime!

Basic Keelboat Sailing Skills
- Knowledge: nomenclature for parts of the boat, sails, &
rigging; basic sailboat design, sail theory and boat dynamics.
- Preparation to Sail: local weather, presail check, & crew preparation.
- Crew Skills: tying and use of knots, sail controls, & proper rigging.
- Boat Control in Open Water: sail trim, sail telltales and points of sail, heaving-to
- Docking or Mooring: effects of wind, tide & currents, boathandling, approach plans.
