Founded by Capt. Joe Hanko in 1994 as Restless Sailor, Inc., the business first offered yacht delivery on the west coast from Mexico to Canada. Private sailing instruction soon followed. By 1995, customer demand led us to add rigging service, yacht management, and custom restoration/equipping of cruising yachts. In 1997 the company was incorporated, and remains privately held. After 7 successful years on the west coast, the business relocated to Ft. Myers, Florida, its current base of operations. As a small, privately held firm, we are able to respond to our customers needs on a personal level. Many of our clients remain with us as good friends. Because of the growth of diverging business lines, all educational and charter activities were consolidated under the RhumbLine Sailing banner.
RhumbLine Sailing School began Florida operations in October 2006. Rhumbline is a US SAILING certified school, is the exclusive approved sailing school for Manta Catamarans, and provides all customer training for Manta. In 2008, Rhumbline Sailing moved to Burnt Store Marina resort, a beautiful upscale marina based community open to the public. Effective January 2009, after a one and half year trial period, RhumbLine discontinued its American Sailing Associaton (ASA) affiliation, however our cross training certification system allows ASA sailors to build upon their existing education via the superior US SAILING curriculum. We can accommodate students on either certification track, from beginning sailing through passage making. Please contact Capt. Joe for more information on the certification cross-over process.
Our goal is to provide extremely high quality service and education, demonstrating respect for the client and their yacht, in a relaxed atmosphere. All our employees are full time, committed professionals. All our Captains are USCG licensed, experienced in yacht deliveries, and are certified US SAILING Instructors. A US SAILING certification ensures our customers that they are receiving the most qualified, competent, and professional sailors out there. Our staff is also involved in sailing on a personal level, racing and cruising their own boats. For us, sailing is not just a job, it is our passion!
